EU Enlargement cannot be conditional on the revision of EU Treaties

In a plenary debate on the Enlargement package 2023 – Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, our First Vice-President Władysław Ortyl highlighted that it is unfair to use candidate countries as a bargaining chip by tying their future to the issue of having to change the EU Treaties. "It is also wrong to create the impression that there is no alternative to changing the EU Treaties and that the only future is a more centralised union with a concentration of power in Brussels".

The opinion drafted by József Ribányi, Member of Tolna Megye County Council, was today adopted by unanimity at the CoR plenary session. It underlines that locally produced energy like geothermal has direct benefits for local communities and economies that would "benefit from an EU-wide strategy" and further financial assistance, research and support.

"Half of all homicides in the EU are related to drug trafficking or drug abuse. This is why the opinion calls on all local and regional authorities to intensify cooperation with law enforcement agencies to reduce drug-related violence on the streets of our cities", stated the member of the Local Assembly of Varese in Lombardy.
