ECR Group President Marco Marsilio Commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the Marcinelle Disaster

ECR Group President and President of the Abruzzo Region, Marco Marsilio, today took part in the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the Marcinelle mining disaster, one of the darkest tragedies in Europe's industrial history. Speaking at Bois du Cazier, the site where 262 miners lost their lives on 8 August 1956, Marsilio paid tribute to the victims and reflected on the enduring values of dignity, responsibility and respect for work that their sacrifice represents.

Defending Europe's local communities: Conservative leaders unite behind stronger borders and safer streets

The ECR Group in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) held its 2026 Study Days in Warsaw, Poland, to outline the solutions needed to make territories safer and to defend Europe's communities when it comes to public order, internal security and social cohesion. Hosted by the Mayor of Halinów, Adam Ciszkowski, the event featured several high-level speakers, including the President of the ECR Party Mateusz Morawiecki MP, Marco Marsilio, President of the Abruzzo Region and Presidente of the ECR Group in the CoR, , the Head of the ECR Polish delegation in the European Parliament, Adam Bielan MEP, the Deputy Chief of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Adam Andruszkiewicz, and the Secretary General of the ECR Party Antonio Giordano MP.

The European Committee of the Regions has adopted the opinion on the Consumer Agenda 2030, led by ECR rapporteur and Mayor of Halinów Adam Ciszkowski. The opinion calls for a stronger role for local and regional authorities in protecting consumers while ensuring that European legislation remains practical, proportionate and responsive to the realities that citizens and businesses face every day.
