Michele Pais hosts the plenary meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly in Alghero, Sardinia

The Euro-Mediterranean approach to disaster risk reduction, to ensure that authorities are better prepared for earthquakes, water scarcity, floods and wildfires was the main topic that dominated proceedings at the ARLEM annual meeting hosted by the President of the Regional Council of Sardinia Michele Pais. ECR President Marco Marsilio was also present in Alghero to share the vast experience of Abruzzo in preventing and reacting to natural disasters.

Marshal Ortyl in Lviv to discuss Ukraine's EU accession process, reform agenda and its impact at local level

The CoR's Working Group on Ukraine held an external meeting in Lviv, Ukraine, where ECR First Vice President Władysław Ortyl was invited as a speaker to share his expertise on capacity building. The discussion focused on the state of reforms in view of the future EU accession of Ukraine, the proposal of the European Commission for the establishment of the Ukraine Facility, and the cooperation between local authorities in the context of the recovery and reconstruction of the country. ECR member Pavel Branda was also in attendance.

A just and sustainable transition for automotive region – "a missed opportunity"

The EU's conservative local and regional politicians, led by President Marsilio, have greatly contributed to the CoR's opinion on the future of the automotive industry. While securing several key amendments including on biofuels, technological neutrality and the need to respond to the fierce competition from China, they also called for a reconsideration of the ban on the registration of conventional petrol and diesel vehicles throughout the EU from 2035.

"EU should not interfere too much in health and wellbeing of our citizens"

Our ECR NAT coordinator and rapporteur for the opinion on "the role of cities as health promoters", addressed the EU Health Commissioner during the October plenary session by firstly highlighting that health remains a competence of the EU member states and "that in the majority of EU member states the management of health systems is decentralised although the degree of decentralisation may vary".
