Dutch Police Academy hosts ECR delegation for fact-finding mission on combating youth criminality

ECR members Matteo Bianchi and Robert Zeman were invited for a fact-finding mission to Leusden Police Academy, in the Netherlands, to learn about fighting youth criminality, in particular drug-related crime.

"This visit provided a timely opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the local police force’s efforts in combating crime. In these regions, and throughout Europe, drug trafficking remains a pervasive threat that must be eradicated", said Mr Bianchi. The lessons learnt from this mission by the ECR members further consolidate the campaign carried out by the ECR CoR Group on  measures to unite against drugs and Mr Bianchi's opinion adopted by the European Committee of the Regions.

"Witnessing the training and the preparation required to undergo delicate operations to combat criminal behaviours has been useful and compelling. Best practices and lessons learnt can be used elsewhere in Europe and in our communities where drug-related crimes persist", said Mr Zeman.

The visit was organised and made possible by ECR Local Councillor and Council member of Zwartewaterland, Wilhelm Bisschop.
