Vice-President Droba on strengthening Europe’s resilience through dual-use infrastructure

The European Committee of the Regions has adopted ECR Rapporteur Juraj Droba's opinion on the future of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) during the Plenary session, sending a strong political message on the need to reinforce the territorial dimension of one of the EU’s key infrastructure funding programmes. The discussion saw the presence of European Parliament Vice-President Antonella Sberna, who is also and rapporteur for the CEF in the REGI Committee in the Parliament.

Aurigemma, Health emergency preparedness is delivered locally

"The issue of medical countermeasures is not only timely, but also of strategic importance for our regions and cities. Health emergency preparedness is something that is delivered locally, under real‑life constraints,” Antonello Aurigemma, ECR rapporteur and President of the Regional Council of the Lazio Region, said following the approval by the CoR Plenary session of his opinion on medical countermeasures. The approval marks an important step towards strengthening Europe’s health emergency preparedness with a strong territorial focus.

ECR Group hosts discussion on Connecting Europe Facility with EP Vice-President Zīle

The political momentum around the adoption of the opinion on the future of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) presented by ECR Vice-President Juraj Droba was further reinforced by the participation of Roberts Zīle, Vice‑President of the European Parliament and ECR Group MEP, at the ECR CoR Group meeting, held ahead of the May plenary session. The meeting proved once again the excellent cooperation within the ECR political family in ensuring that EU legislation is based on local and regional needs as well as on common-sense driven policies.

Biondi: our identity lies in our cultural heritage

During the Committee of the Regions Plenary session, the debate with European Commissioner Glenn Micallef, and with Andrea Abodi, Italian Minister for Sport and Youth, offered a strong political reflection on the role of culture as a cornerstone of European cohesion and territorial resilience. Speaking on behalf of ECR Group, Pierluigi Biondi, Mayor of L’Aquila and ECR member, emphasised that Europe demonstrates its true added value when policies are built from the ground up, rooted in local communities, traditions and shared memory. Of noteworthy mention is that the city of L'Aquila has been nominated Italian capital of Culture for 2026.

President Marsilio: connectivity is key to Europe's competitiveness and the right to stay

During the COTER commission discussion on the draft opinion "Advancing Europe’s sustainable and connected transport system - a territorial perspective", the ECR Group President and rapporteur Marco Marsilio underlined that transport connectivity is not only an infrastructure issue but a strategic pillar for competitiveness, cohesion and social stability across Europe. “Connectivity is an essential condition for the functioning of the Single Market, for European security and for the social tissue of our territories, including the right to remain for European youth” he stressed.
