Centre-right groups join forces in vote to uphold unanimity principle in EU accession process

During today’s debate on the 2025 Enlargement Package, ECR Group Vice-President Anna Magyar underlined how, thanks to the CoR’s centre-right political forces, the principle of unanimity in enlargement matters has been upheld. During her intervention, Ms Magyar stressed that the principle of unanimity in the Council must remain at the core of the EU’s enlargement decisions, making it the key factor shaping any credible path toward accession.

President Marsilio warns against merging agriculture and cohesion funds during debate with Commissioner Serafin

During today’s plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions, ECR Group President Marco Marsilio delivered a strong message on the future Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) in a debate with European Commissioner for Budget, Piotr Serafin, rejecting any attempt to merge cohesion funding with CAP resources. “Centralising these funds would create an artificial and harmful opposition between regions and farmers. This cannot in any way benefit our territories” he stated.

ECR Group First Vice-President Władysław Ortyl represented the European Committee of the Regions at the Eastern Border Regions High-Level Conference held at the European Commission. The event that brought together EU, national and regional leaders to discuss the future of the EU’s eastern border territories, followed-up on the recent European Commission Communication on the EU’s eastern regions bordering Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

The meeting took place in the framework of The Presidency of the Council of the European Union held by Cyprus.
