Automotive transition has to be based on technological neutrality

"It is important to recognise that in addition to the batteries for electric vehicles there are also sustainable bio-fuels that will enable us to continue usinge combustion engines, stressed President Marco Marsilio during a meeting of CoR's Interregional Group on the Future of Automotive Industry. The President warned that abandoning them would "jeopardise the technological and economic sovereignty of Europe".

ECR amendment rejecting lab-grown food adopted by unanimity in CoR plenary

ECR Group members were relieved to see the adoption of their amendment, which expresses concern about the introduction of lab-grown foods on European markets. Members were voting an opinion on the sustainability of food systems, which will serve to feed into the European Commission's legislative proposal foreseen for November 2023.

Local communities cannot be left alone to deal with crises

During the recent terrible floods in Emilia-Romagna in Italy, "we saw first-hand the perfect demonstration of European solidarity in practice", stated Mr Marsilio. The President of the Abruzzo region explained that several EU Member States have sent assistance and water-pumping equipment via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to help deal with the disaster – Italy's worst flooding for 100 years. When an emergency overwhelms the response capabilities of a country in Europe and beyond, it can request assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
