Pavel Branda speaks at cross-border tourism event on the Russia-Ukraine war and its impact on the tourism sector

"Smart, sustainable and resilient approaches to tourism are needed with more emphasis on interregional tourism", noted Pavel Branda while chairing a debate on the impact of the current geopolitical situation on cross-border tourism. Mr Branda, Deputy Mayor of Rádlo in Czechia, opened the debate highlighting first of all the devastating results of the Russia-Ukraine war, in particular that the consequences of war have reached the EU and most of all the EU countries bordering Ukraine and Russia.

ECR local and regional politicians disappointed with the results of the Conference on the Future of Europe

The Conference on the Future of Europe reached its conclusion on Friday the 29th of May. Alongside their colleagues from the European Parliament, ECR Members from the European Committee of the Regions actively contributed to the discussions, but have remained critical of the process and its outcomes.

ECR Group amendment on abandoning Nord Stream projects passes for first time in CoR

The CoR April plenary session saw the unanimous adoption of a resolution on EU regions and cities' support for Ukraine. ECR Group members were particularly relieved to see their amendment calling for the total abandonment of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 projects passing. It is the first time that such an amendment was voted favourably by other CoR members.

Rob Jonkman and the future of taxation in the EU

"We need to maintain unanimity voting on taxation", declared Rob Jonkman during the debate on taxation at the April plenary session of the Committee of the Regions. "As the ECR CoR Group, we cannot support the proposal to remove national vetoes on tax issues that are key to the national economies" he explained.

The Marshal of Lubelskie Region spoke in a debate on Ukraine held on the first day of the CoR plenary session of 27-28 April, with the participation of Janez Lenarčič, European Commissioner for Crisis Management. As a member of the CoR's European Conservatives and Reformists Group, Marshal Jarosław Stawiarski stressed that we are seeing values such as solidarity and fraternity in action now more than ever.
